CIEDS’ primary objective is the development of defence innovation.

Today, this innovation is no longer solely the result of long-term planning. To the “traditional” theatres of operations — land, air and sea — are now added environments inaccessible to humans, such as space or the deep seabed, as well as entirely virtual domains, from cyber to the information sphere. Across all these new areas of conflict, from very high altitude to the ocean depths, France is exposed to multiple, often hybrid attacks which frequently rely on the diversion of civilian technologies. In these emerging environments, advanced technologies are ubiquitous.

In response to these developments, CIEDS is taking action to promote technology transfer by making laboratory inventions rapidly accessible to companies and by supporting their scale-up towards pre-industrialisation. The objective is clear: to work together in the service of ensuring the operational superiority of the French armed forces.
